LENGTHS ( by and large )
2006
Kinetic sculpture, beechwood, brass,
electric motor
250 x 4 x 2 cm

in an 8-minute cycle, the motor induces a torsion in the upper chain.
As a result, the chain slowly decreases its lenght. At a pivotal point,
the combination of the built-up tension in the chain and its decrease in lenght
causes the lengths of wood to start rotating. As the rotation picks up speed,
the sculpture is briefly elevated from the floor. Upon unwinding,
the chains increase in lenght, lose momentum and cause the rotation to
tail off and the cycle to start over.
